Tullahoma 20th Annual Soap Box Derby Venue: Lincoln Street, Tullahoma Venue address: 501 N. Collins St Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388 USA Event Start: 5/4/2019 - 7am Event End: 5/4/2019 - 3pm Event Website: Expected number of attendees: 60 Requested number of characters: ? Requested character types: Secure changing/staging area: Yes Comments: Each year on the first Saturday in May the City of Tullahoma puts on an annual Soap Box Derby. This year happens to fall on May 4th (Star Wars Day!) and it's our 20th year of the program. I'm going to push it as a Star Wars themed event because of the date, and would like to see if there's a handful of characters that might come for the event, do pictures with the kids and such. What would be ideal is a few in the morning when the event starts and then a few in the afternoon when it ends to do photos with the winners. First race goes down the hill about 7am and the last race is usually between 2 and 3pm based on number of attendees. Thanks for your consideration and look forward to speaking with you. Referred by: Tennessean newspaper article from 2015 MSG GEC Notes: This event is opened to RL, Mandos, and Droid Builders alike... so please post if you can attend this event and will be able to be in Tullahoma, TN on May 4th. Please note that the most people will be there at the start of the race at 7AM, so we are asked to troop for a little while before the 7AM race starts. So, figure that we should start trooping (be in costume) around 6AM if we can be there. The people tend to leave as the races go on, and the kids are eliminated, so while the end of the race may be ideal for us in terms of travel and time suiting up, this will have the fewer number of people... the finalists (kids) and their families most likely. The event is outside, but they do have a lightning shelter if he weather gets bad. It doesn't look like they expect us to stay for the entire day, but I'm sure they wouldn't care if we did. However, since they asked for the beginning and the end, we'll keep two rosters going... one for early morning and one for mid afternoon. You can sign up for AM, or the PM, or both (if you want to troop, go home or do something else, and come back), or stay the entire derby race if you'd like. Just let me know when you post which one(s) you want. If you have more than one costume, you could wear one in the AM and one in the PM. The exact end time depends on the number of racers, so it could be as early as 1PM and as late as 3PM. Those still present at the race will probably take (winners) photos with us since they will likely all be finalists. 6AM (+) Roster: (Figure on being ready to troop a little before 6AM, and likely hanging around for an hour or so.) 2PM (+/-) Roster: (Figure being ready around 1PM and trooping the event until it is over which would be about 3PM.)
  4. 1st Armor

Well, at least they eventually get it... One school of thought I have seen taken is to build the clean TK and use it for a while. As it gets dirty or scuffed, it gets closer to a Sandtrooper. I'm not an armor expert by any means, but as long as there are not too many differences between the standard TK armor and the armor for a sandy, this also buys you time to acquire or build the other components for a full sandy: back pack, pauldron, ammo pouches, heavy blaster rifle maybe, etc. While you are saving up for those, or getting the pieces ready, you can troop in the clean TK. One thing about trooping events is that you can never have too many TK's (or Sandtroopers for that matter). So either one will fit in well in any event.
  5. Hello from Mt. Juliet

You don't see one called Music City Squad (Greater Nashville Area)? The other ones in the general Middle TN and surrounding areas not within a specific squad jurisdictions are just in the one that says Midsouth Garrison Events. These should both be within the same "Events" section of the forum, but I don't know if the permissions are set differently for those sub-sections. Robbie, are recruits able to see the MCS and general MSG event sections in either the forum or the event calendar? I don't know if the settings are different for these.

Wonderful. Didn't see a reply, so I thought I'd pitch in my two cents in case you were still awaiting a response.
  8. Hello from Mt. Juliet

If you have access to the calendar of events, you could also come out to a few of them to get to know the troopers, see how they made their kits or assembled their costumes, gain some knowledge on where to get or not get components from in person, etc. They often look (nearly) identical on the outside, but everyone has their own system that best works for them, so seeing a few versions of each costume might give you ideas for your own. Many of us, including me, came out to events as a helper/handler for several events before I decided how or what costume to start with. Depending on what times you'd be available, there are likely some events coming up within the next few months in the greater Nashville area (including Clarksville) as well as surrounding areas. Check the calendar of events regularly... since we add them as we get requests... which can be quite often.
  9. Race Shirt Thread

Assuming you don't have restricted access for some reason, this link should work: Or from the main forum Home - > 501st Only - > Imperial Quartermaster - > ORDER THREAD: Fall 2018 Racing Shirt Run FYI: Any of the garrison merchandise/swag ordering threads are usually in the same section - Home - > 501st Only - > Imperial Quartermaster. If you don't see the sections, you might need better access.. and might need to PM Robbie. He might have to add some permissions that come with being a member vs when you were a recruit, or maybe you aren't sure where to find things now that you see more parts of the forum... Hope this helps.

Some are locked or get moved to a new location (especially if they are older events, duplicated somewhere else, etc.) Are you trying to do so from a link, or are you viewing the conversation on the board and just can't reply at the bottom?

  14. Tie Pilot checking in

Hi Jesse, There are often events in Knoxville and Chattanooga areas that would probably be relatively close for you. If you don't mind driving to Cookeville, Nashville, Clarksville, or maybe even towards Jackson or Memphis, you'd have more events. ROB-CON was in Kingston last weekend, Fanboy Expo was in late June in Knoxville, and Connooga will come around again as well. But there are lots of events, that should be on the calendar, that get added as they come in... so check it often. Sometimes we get a few at a time, sometimes we get a lot! Things coming up: GoFest in Chattanooga (Sept) Knoxville Team Hope Walk (Oct) Dogwood Rock Your School (Sept) Cookeville FNB of TN Family Appreciation day (Sept) (and Nashville/Clarksville area) Opryland Hotel Make-a-Wish reveal (August) Clarksville Day of Play (Sept) Strike out HD in Columbia (Sept) ...and four more events so far in/near Nashville for September.

They raised funds and project has continued now for three years. I have wrote and received a grant/funding from the TNECD in 2017. With these funds I have finished the space with seating and the seating, led lighting, audio and projector and control unit. We have been having free shows for kids, teachers, civic groups while we are going through training on the equipment. Our Grand Opening is on July 11. This is the best date that the TNECD had to come for a visit and a viewing. We will have several people from around the state and our community at the event. We would love to have you all to help us welcome everyone. I just know you are the perfect group to help us welcome in the new Planetarium. I have wanted to get your group here for ever. The Planetarium is going to be a huge impact for our rural community. It wi! ll create interest in the STEAM activities. It will be a true inspiration! Referred by: My husband and sons meet your group at the Tupelo Mississippi Comic Con in 2017. Note: Very short notice, and also on a weekday... Posting it here, but warning them that this is not likely to get a lot of troopers, if any.
  17. Why hello!

Welcome (back), Jennifer. You can come out and troop with us, or perhaps be a handler until your costume is ready and approved, so check the events and the calendar for new events regularly. BTW: The Knoxville area just had a con this last weekend (Saturday and Sunday ...yesterday). Knoxville and Chattanooga have steady events, so I'm sure you could come out and join us/them at almost all of them. And, if you feel like a drive, Cookeville, Nashville, and Clarksville have regular events you could join us at as well... not to mention Jackson, Memphis, and KY. However, feel free to pick the ones that work best for you. From time to time, we even get requests for the Kingsport area as well if you'd prefer not to drive so far.

  19. Introduction post.

We were just at the Governor's Square Mall for an event on Saturday... But, we have several events throughout the year in Clarksville, and you can certainly come out and see us there or at something else (perhaps in Nashville area if not in Clarksville). Welcome to the party. Also, from time to time, there are build parties that happen where troopers (and new recruits) get together to build and socialize. You can also ask those that have already built similar costumes for pointers and helpful hints as well.
  20. Hello!

Indeed. Even though you aren't quite ready to troop the event, there is no better way to get to know the other (local) troopers. They may be able to help you build, find, or assemble parts of your costume... in the form of what you could do... or in some cases what they have tried that didn't work so well. After all, we have all built or assembled something. If you want to come out to one of the events that we will be at, please RSVP on the calendar or the posted event and let us know. Troopers in attendance will know to expect you, look for you, and should be friendly and welcoming. As a helper/handler, you can still be very a important part of trooping. You can help troopers: suit up ...such as attach the hard-to-reach parts of the armor guide those with limited mobility/vision through doorways, up or down steps, through crowds take pictures for kids/guests that want to be in the image and generally watch out so that the more obnoxious kids/teens/adults don't hit us, get paint, markers, glue, or gum on the costumes, or other misconduct.

  22. Hello!

HI Morgan, and welcome to the group. Knoxville does not have it's own squad yet, but there is active conversation about it. While the squad may not be finalized yet, there are several active troopers in the Knoxville area. Chattanooga has a few as well that often participate in Knoxville area events. Right now, all the Knoxville events are with the rest of the MidSouth Garrison events (like Clarksville and Cookeville). The were at the Knoxville Zoo last week and will be at both the FanBoy Expo event in Knoxville and the Rob-Con in Kingston this June and July respectively. Knoxville area does get regular events, so if you can see the calendar, don't forget to check often. You can also troop anywhere in the Garrison area you want, regardless of squads, so don't feel you have to wait for Knoxville events to troop (once you have your costume/armor done) or just come out and meet the group (as a handler or helper). Sometimes, they have built parties in the area and could provide some guidance if you want it. Many have built armored troopers and guards before (even if not specifically Phasma). Visiting other garrisons is also pretty easy.

So like most relay races or 5K's we participate in, they'd like us suited up for the start of the race, and for a few hours. The event is actually all day for Tennova, but the event requester knows that we don't need to be present for the full relay. Any trooper(s) that feel like staying longer are welcomed to do so, but they will be happy with a few hours at the beginning of the relay, especially on such short notice.
