Still a work in progress

I've been working on my batman costume, trying to perfect it, off and on since last year. The pictures on my facebook, which I linked in a previous thread, are all from around halloween of last year. Since then, I've upgraded my cape, and made a utility belt.

I'm planning some upgrades to my belt, which will be done in the coming months. When I made the first (let's say v1 belt), I used glasses cases from Dollar General, attached by machine screws to a web belt bought from Lowes. I then attached a "Brave and the Bold" batarang to create a buckle. Now, I'm getting the itch to get back to work on this costume, and the belt is where I really want to make the most improvements, as that's where it really doesn't look the best, at least to me.

What I'm going to do, and this is open to suggestions, is go on a military surplus site, and order some "compass pouches", to attach to the belt, instead of the glasses cases. I only got the cases as that was what was most readily available and economical at the time.

I don't know if I'm going to make any improvements to the actual suit, as I really like the classic grey/black look for Batman, as opposed to the all black look in the movies.

has anyone else done a batman costume that can make some better suggestions for the belt?

June 26th Star Wars family fun day Lexington

figured i would throw together a mission report.

June 26,2010
Joseph Beth Bookstore
Lexington,KY

Troops were invited to Joseph beth Bookstore in Lexington,KY to troop the Star wars family fun day.
the event changed a little bit this year with the inclusion of a pre-event breakfast. The store held an early morning event for the kids and was covered by some of the local members .The store sold out of tickets for the breakfast!

The main event was from 11-1. Troops that had travelled to Ky arrived and began suiting up.Just after 11pm the characters were led down the escalators to a roaring crowd!!
The lower lobby was standing room only as everyone was escorted to the glass fronted portion of the store, now nicknamed the "sauna" as it was extremely hot.
Vader,Troopers, Solo and others held a single position as the remaining members were able to mingle with the fans and help with crowd control. The members signed many many books and took photos for 2 hours.
Besides having the 501st present the store brought in a balloon artist to make "saber" balloons and a bouncy house setup right in the store. they also had some coloring tables and various SW crafts for the kids to play with.
17 troops made it to the event, even though TKTim had to leave before the group photo to get ready for the prop party-cookout.
Once the event was over everyone made their way to TKTims. Tim was able to arrange us a super large grill where Loki and Skip cooked burgers, hotdogs and chicken..mmmmm.
Prop building took place in the garage for a few hours until around 7pm when the Nashville gang had to head home.
Thanks to TKTim for heading up the event, organizing and supplying dinner and party space for after the event.

A big thanks for all that made it to troop the event!!! and of coarse the handlers!!

here is a link to a video made from the event
Comments: Hello I am a member of the Morgan County Cops For Kids, a non-profit organization created by local law enforcement to raise money to provide Christmas presents to underprivileged children. We would like your assistance in one of our fundraisers that we would like to make an annual thing: Star Wars Day! We would like one Darth Vadar, some stormtroopers of all varieties (but mostly TK's), and any other costumed characters that could attend, both Rebellion and Empire, to come to our town to pose with children and fans at our local park and then make a very short parade from the park (around 500 feet) to the Towne Cinema theater (one of two underground theaters in the country!) for an all day Star Wars movie fest, showing Episodes 4, 5 & 6 (without the lastest editing). We would be very honored to have you guys as our stars!! Let me know if this is feasible.

Comments: We already requested characters for July but have changed our date to Saturday, August 28th to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. This year, we're charging tickets and a portion of sales will go back to Literacy Mid South. We haven't gotten confirmation of the previous request but would love for someone to get in touch with us about this awesome event we're planning! We will have various sections in the bookstore decorated and with games like "Ice Planet Hoth", "Dagobah's System", "Cloud City." Families will pay $3 for a wristband that will allow them to play all the games, get prizes, giveaways, and hopefully take pictures with the Star Wars characters! Last year we had 100 people and we're planning for double that this year. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hendersonville Relay for Life

Please post if you can make it.
Event Name: Hendersonville Relay For Life
Venue: Merrol Hyde Magnet School
Venue address: Hendersonville, Tennessee 37075

Event Start: June 18th - 6:00pm
Event End: June 18th - 10:00pm-ish ?

Expected number of attendees: 1500+
Secure changing/staging area: Yes

Comments: Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society fund raiser and we
are hoping to draw people with the Star Wars characters being there. We
would like to have a booth set up to take photo's for a donation where the
procedes go directly to the American Cancer Society. We would also like
the characters to walk around among the crowd. I realize the time frame is
long and we can talk more about that if need be, we would be ok with
shifts of characters if you do that.
We are looking into another event that has to do with Cancer Survivor's
where we hold a celebration for them and the theme would coordinate with
Star Wars. We will let you know the date of that, it's only an hour or so
event.
Referred by: Bob Huff is a friend of ours!

Updated info

The location has changed to Merrol Hyde Magnet School which is just past Hendersonville Hospital on New Shackle Island rd. They want us trooping from 7:00 - 9:00 pm as they feel that will be when the greatest number of people will be in attendance. This will differ from a regular relay event in that this site has been chosen as a study site this year. This means that there will be a tent set up for people to take part in a cancer study as well as the regular relay. This is a preety big deal as Hendersonville is one of only seven sites selected as a study site. So drag out the armor and troop.
