Hello Everyone!

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Nick Grissom I live in Chapmansboro TN. (that's between Clarksville and Nashville close to Pleasant view for anyone who didn't know) I'm new and was introduced to the group through a friend of mine from work. I'm looking to get into the 501st at some point. Literally just finished my costume 2 days ago. I have a set of sith acolyte armor and lightsaber that I 3d printed, painted, and strapped together myself and did all the wiring on the lightsaber myself and just finished my first time out in the set today at Clarksville con and I've found myself wondering why I have not done this sooner ( I"m 35 and have never done anything like this before) I HAD A BLAST hanging out with everyone from the group that was there and just interacting with everyone at the event. I really hope to be able to become a full member of the 501st and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible!

Nick, it was indeed great to meet you Saturday.  :)  Welcome to the party... or the Dark Side.  :sith:

Now that you are on the forums here at the MSG, you'll be able to see where other events will be in Clarksville, and greater Nashville area.   Check the calendar and/or the event section for updates often.  As we get new events, they get added.  You can join us at most events and get to know most of us, and compare costume notes as needed.  The events closer to Nashville are in the Music City Squad (MCS) section, and the ones closer to Clarksville are in the general Midsouth Garrison (MSG) section/calendar.  If you are going to be in the other squad areas of TN, feel free to look at those too.  Events within the squad areas will be found in the squad's section and calendar, but those in areas outside a squad are in the MSG general section.  Keep in mind that one does not have to be part of a specific squad to troop events, or attend.  We are usually able to have handlers/helpers at events, so even before your costume is fully approved, you can join us at most events.

Once your costume is complete, and approved, you will have more access on the forums and be able to troop any event as a trooper.  Until then, check the events section of the forum and calendar to see where you can come out and join us next. Trooping events is always fun with more troopers, and costume variety is always good.  While you can never have too many stormtroopers, TIE pilots, officers, and the like, it is also fun to have some of the more rare characters.  You never know when you will be a kid's favorite character... or an adult fan's favorite character.

I'm sure you will be able to get input and recommendations on costume components as you need them as well, and your 3D printer will get quite the workout.  :)  I'm no expert on the Sith Acolyte, but it certainly looked good to me.

Thanks for all the info that helps a lot cause I was wondering about the squad situation as I saw that cheatham county where I live is part of the music city squad so thanks for clearing that bit up for me I’ve already been poking around the different topics/conversations when I’ve had downtime and I’ve looked over the calendar a bit as well maybe before too long I’ll get to join y’all again it was a TON of fun at the con sat hope you have a good week and I’m sure I’ll be in touch with more questions at some point.

Nick, you certainly can be part of a squad, too... Music City Squad in your case, and still troop anywhere in the garrison. :)  Hope to see you out with us again soon.

Definitely! I’m actually in the process of reprinting my entire set of thigh armor right now. Actually wearing the suit for a while I noticed some stuff I wasn’t happy about with it the scaling was wrong with the set I printed I never measured myself to find out what scaling I needed. Turns out I’m a little too short and round for the base file scaling so I’m going to reprint and see if I can get a better fit now that I’ve measured. I can still wear what I have for the time being so I won’t have to completely miss out on events and stuff but it’ll be much more comfortable if I can get a better fit. Not to mention it’ll look better.

That is one of the benefits of trying it out at troops like you did last weekend.  :)  Helps you figure out where all the kinks are in the armor... literally and figuratively.

It obviously has to look accurate, but at some point you need to be able to wear it.  So, this was like a practice run.

Yeah pretty much I should have a better idea of sizing tomorrow once my new thigh piece is done printing then I’ll have to print the other front and both back thigh pieces and then it’ll be onto the finishing and painting process again but atleast it’ll only be 4 pieces total this time instead of the whole set so it should go faster this time around.
